It’s like Ringo personally mailed me the new Beatles CD, only better

Last week, Pere Ubu guru David Thomas kindly emailed me to say he’d make sure that I got the new Ubu disk, as well as the recent CD he produced for 15-60-75 (the Numbers band), in the mail.

The Numbers’ disk arrived two days ago and I’ve just started to explore its deep soulful blues.

Today in my mail, there was the new Pere Ubu disk. In a hand-addressed bubble mailer. With the hand-written return address of… Steve Mehlman, the drummer.

This has just gotten better and better.

Congratulations! That is very cool. Let me know how it is, I’m curious if it will be as good as “Why I Hate Women”.

And look at how reasonable that First Class postage was. Makes me proud to be a mail carrier.

I should note that they offered me a code to download the disk, but I wanted the physical object. Partly to help keep Uncle Rich in business.

What fun! I love that you’ve had this exchange with David Thomas and it’s “just gotten better.” Often it seems like the opposite happens. What if you were a Cream fan? I’ve read that Ginger Baker is a total a**hole.
I missed a chance to hang out with Peter Murphy in San Francisco in the 90’s–but (as you know) I did get to shake Thomas Dolby’s hand. Now that’s proximity! It didn’t get better and better, but my hand tingled for a while.
