A better name for Larry
I think my friend Larry Nemecek’s name is fine. It’s his blog that needs a new name.
Larry is acknowledged as the world’s foremost expert on “Star Trek.” (Note to my modest friend Larry: “Who acknowledges you as that? Me. So there.” Me, plus all the people who put his book “The Star Trek Companion” on the New York Times bestseller list, plus all the readers over the years of his other books and magazines, including “Star Trek Communicator.”)
Larry is smarter than I’ll ever be about “Star Trek.” Perhaps too smart: He’s named his new blog about all things Trek “Check the Circuit.”
Huh?
Oh, yeah. Larry informs me that that is the very first line of dialogue ever spoken on “Star Trek.” (It’s in the background in the first scene of “The Cage” and is spoken by Mr. Spock.) Of course.
Like me, you might think this reference too arcane for a) anyone under 45, and b) anyone who also has other interests in life. Both of which would disqualify 99.9999% of the people I expect to be seeing the new “Star Trek” movie when it comes out. Or, as I like to think of them, new people who might become interested in my good friend Larry’s blog.
So I entreat you: Help me come up with a new name for Larry’s blog.
Ideally, it should reference “Star Trek.” (Which, sorry Larr, “Check the Circuit” doesn’t quite do.) Larry is widely known in his field, and he deserves a great blog name. Anything less and he should just pick one of the two blog names I suggested:
- “LarryNemecek.com”
- “Fred.”

Well, who I am I to argue with Lee, the world’s greatest Comic-Con crowd control expert?
Let the record, show, however, the other viable contender (and real source of my dilemma) is TREKLAND. As in, a whimsical inclusion of it all: Trek’s producers, actors past and present, fans, Big Name Fans, licensees, dealers, clubs and conventions, groupies, ad nauseum. As in “I’ve worked in Trekland for decades.” Both have their votes among fans, pro fans and online marketing guru.
Or we just go with “Fred.”

Trekland.com is taken.
Plus, “Star Trek” is about PLANETS (not lands, he said, lecturing the “Star Trek” expert).
Unfortunately, TrekWorld, PlanetTrek, TrekPlanet, etc. are taken.
As is, sadly, Fred.com .

My suggestion is “Trek Wonderland”. I did check and it has not been taken.

If he goes with .us or .tv instead of .com, the following are available according to networksolutions:
RedShirt: Very trek but not quite as insider… and shows a little humility.
BoldlyGoing or BoldlyGo (along these lines, I also looked up splitinfinitive, which is available but too obscure…)
imadoctor
thefinalfrontier
alltrek
engineswonttakeit.com is, however, available
God, I feel geeky all over….

Spock: “Hmmm, poor photography.” (-my absolute favorite Spockism). Your choice on submitting it for review/episode. Pretty ballsy of me to suggest, I know.
Geekily, yours, Aunt Harriet.

how about: CAPTIAN’S BLOG
At first seemingly catchy but now to my eye appearing uh, kinky or some shit…

Well, there’s always HesDeadJim. Too negative? And what was that Academy exercise Kirk beat by changing the program? Didn’t they give a name to his ‘solution’?
I believe the current title is fine, if you just add a brief explanation below it. Of course, I also believe Seven of Nine is stalking me and I hope I WILL be assimilated.

that would be the “Kobayashi Maru” exercise, a computer simulation ‘scenario’ (about a troubled ship that strikes a mine in the middle of the neutral zone) that had no solution, until young Kirk re-programmed the simulator’s computer so that everyone could be saved safely – his ‘solution’ earned him a commendation for original thinking…
I like: ” He’s Dead ” except – drop the ‘Jim’ and create an ‘air’ of exclusivity among the star bellied Sneeches…and keep out the rabble that don’t have stars on their bellies….
unable …. to ….. stay …. away…. from THIS TTTTTTTopic! (kirk voice, IN ultimate struggle at 9:55pm)
and then there’s another personal favorite of mine…
the late John Fiedler (as Hengist): ” ‘DIE, DIE, DIE, EVERYBODY DIEEEEEE!
– I’LL CUT OFF YOUR OXYGEN! BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!’ ”
simply too too too good….
Stafford – out (more plays on words…) Now this…

How about Trek Universe?
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:15 pm
TrekUniverse.com is taken.
One way to check whether ot not a domain is owned is to visit GoDaddy.com and search.
And yes — PaulCrist.com is taken. Anything we should know about that?

It was not taken by me.
