Hey kids! A comics rack!

Kind of like stumbling across Bigfoot out in the wild, here’s a photo of an actual comics rack — with new comics in it! — in situ at Nau’s  Pharmacy in Austin, Texas. A big thanks to Doug Hackney for sending this along and helping us to keep the dream alive.

Note: Those top three comics are the new FF series. Highly recommended! Doug added that he was having a vanilla malt; my recommendation was that he try those comics.

I won’t be happy until they get a spinner. One of my fondest memories is of the huge comic book spinner rack in a store where we vacationed, in Strathmere, NJ. One summer I was given ten bucks by some loving relative for my birthday. I took it there and TRIED to spend the entire amount on funny books. Had to stop at something like six dollars and seventy cents. And those were dime comics. Wish I still had that stack of prime reading material.

Even the NOTION of having 67 dime-cover comics from that period leaves me shivering with excitement. Literally. I hope there were some great Ditko and Kirby monster comics in there!

Even the notion of those lunch counter stools is enough to quicken my heart, back to Ocean Ave. and the Boardwalk, for a Woolworth’s grilled cheese sandwich and a coke. But that was 1966.
