Heavy reading

Here’s one of the featured books in the window of the bookstore at Los Angeles International Airport. Nice to know we’re peddling this to the world. The most chilling aspect is the top line. It’s hard to believe that the people who buy this book can read. But maybe it’s purely ornamental. “Look what we have on our coffee table:  The TRUTH.” Because, you know, I’m sure that the recognized leader of the free world, the head of the world’s most powerful nation, a man who came from extremely humble origins and rose to the highest station achievable, is eagerly working in secret to advance someone else’s agenda. Yes, that’s how egoless someone who is that driven must be.

Extremely humble origins? He was raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii. He then went to prestigious schools, likely with the aid of grants and government-backed loans. He’s never “gone without.”
Don’t get me wrong; the book is simply fodder for the extreme right – I hope.
Still, I beleive he has his own agenda. What bothers me is what the agenda is. My concerns have less to do with conspiracies and more to do with openly stated policy.

    1. Being born in Hawaii doesn’t make you rich. It makes you a Hawaiian.
    2. There’s more than one definition of “humble,” and I think being a biracial child in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as having been raised partly in Indonesia, qualifies you.
    3. I certainly do hope he has an agenda. That’s why I voted for him. But it’s his agenda, not Karl Marx’s or Hitler’s or the Joker’s, or whatever other asinine charge the tea strainers are throwing at him this week.

Ah, but can you PROVE he’s not secretly plotting to nullify our constitution? Oh wait, W. beat him to it.
