Coming soon to my Netflix queue

Watch this trailer and tell me it doesn’t have everything one might want all wrapped up in one movie.

The only thing missing will be covered in Part Two, due out soon. In that one Machine Girl goes up against Iron Man. It’s her drill bra against his buzz saw jockstrap. YOWZA !!!

I recall that Lenny Bruce used to say – in a more innocent time – something along the lines of: no one ever gets hurt in a skin flick. I’d rather people watched porno than Machine Girl. I certainly would never try to stop anyone from watching it, or, at any rate, wouldn’t want it to be against the law, but this much violence, this grand guignol cinema just seems unpalatable. On the other hand, I’ve just seen the trailer, and who knows what the film might actually have to say.

Recently saw Korean Film OLD BOY, which has quite a bit of violence, some very graphic, and I think that’s an amazing – though somewhat uneven – film.

I think Lenny Bruce is behind on his viewing. I would take it for granted that most of the porn, especially internet porn, is painful. For instance, I don’t think that either the lady or the lobster is much enjoying the position.

Saw OLD BOY and greatly enjoyed it. Yes, it’s amazing — and ludicrous. Check out AUDITION, directed by Takashi Miiake, but DO NOT reading the Netflix description or watch the trailer or read the sleeve when it comes. Just watch it. Then report back here. Lex and I watched it a couple months ago and we’re still talking about it.

AUDITION is indeed a disturbing work. I watch for Takashi Miike’s movies and am pleased by how many appear in our local Big Chain video store. Recently rented IMPRINT, which he did for cable’s Masters of Horror series. It’s the only film they commisioned and then refused to broadcast.

I also enjoyed GOZU, which is surreal but less gory. One of my favorites is HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS, which puts several genres into a cinematic blender, with startling results.
