Warning label

I just read the “medicine guide” that came with my new (short-term) prescription. Quoting from the “guide:”

“What are the possible side effects of xxx?”

“Serious side effects include:

  • asthma attacks in people who have asthma

“Other side effects include:

  • stomach pain
  • constipation
  • diarrhea
  • gas
  • heartburn
  • nausea

  • dizziness

“Get emergency help right away if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • chest pain
  • weakness in one part or side of your body
  • slurred speech
  • swelling of the face or throat

“Stop your medicine and call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • nausea
  • more tired or weaker than usual
  • itching
  • your skin or eyes look yellow
  • stomach pains
  • flu-like symptoms

When I went to see my doctor this morning, she asked why I wasn’t already taking something.

I’m thinking she hasn’t read this.

I’m considering going back to my mother’s treatment for everything:  a shot of whiskey before bed. It’s served her well for 87 years.
