The perfect gift for my friend Joe
My friend Joe is a really really great guy. So tomorrow I’m going to withdraw $189 million from one of my accounts and buy him these Titanic artifacts. I do hope that no one goes up to $190 million in this auction, though, because Joe is a big Titanic fan, and $190 million is a little out of my reach.
And, actually, maybe I shouldn’t have posted this here, because now you might beat me to it.
Some years ago, by the way, I bought Joe one of the Titanics shown in the video below. I’m sure its sinking was every bit as memorable as the one shown in the video, and while it could in no way capture the tragedy of the original, it had one distinct advantage: as a tub toy, it was sinkable again and again and again.

I got my own Sinking Titanic about a decade or so ago, it’s one of my MOST PRIZED POSSESSIONS that I’ve ever owned in the world! Jeepers, it’s so much fun that bath-time will never be the same without it. (Kermit the Frog can KEEP his rubber ducky) As for the ‘bulkhead’, I remember when they brought that up from the bottom of the North Atlantic, and how the first place it was displayed was on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City in front of the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. It had to be kept in salt water that year, until they were able to stabilize the iron, else it would rust into oblivion. Naturally, this year, 2012 is a very special year, it’s the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. At that time, The Onion, printed only on paper, ran the next morning with the headline: “WORLD’S LARGEST METAPHOR HITS ICE-BERG”. Lee, you know where I live, so when you have all that stuff, you can just send it along!!! YAY! I’ll be the only boy on the block with all this cool stuff.

This is the COOLEST bit of video I’ve seen all YEAR!!! It sinks perfectly every time, I should add. Without exception, the front part then the back part…just like the real thing!!! I never thought to play Nearer My God To Thee during bath-time though, and now, I can promise that this will be added!!! I just love whomever made this video, it’s so evocative.

It really captures what it must have been like to be trapped below-decks and then sink to the bottom of a tub of warm bathwater.

I do wish I could see the orchestra on the deck, though. (They sound great.)

Actualy, for a mere $150 Million I can sell you a bit of ice from the iceberg that sank the TITANIC. I have it in my freezer, just awaiting a fair offer. At this price, it’s a steal!
