Today’s theological questions
A friend posted on his Facebook page that he just missed getting hit by an SUV running a red light. Had he not taken a right turn, he would’ve gotten creamed — so the BMW driving next to him got hit instead.
Below his post was this comment: “How great is our God! He said He would be our shield and He just gave you an awesome testimony of the manifestation of His word for you!”
Well, maybe.
But what about the poor guy driving the BMW? What did he do to deserve this?
And why is God personally intervening in traffic accidents? Where was he during Hurricane Katrina (if not the Holocaust)?

Perhaps He was there the whole time working through the hands and hearts of good people. People are so quick to blame God for storms and pain, but never giving Him credit for sunshine and love. The Bible clearly says that we are to give thanks for all things. How do you know the guy in the BMW wasn’t giving thanks to God because he wasn’t killed or seriously injured, or because he wanted a new BMW or whatever? It’s about perspective. Will you be giving thanks that because of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans now has better floodgates, higher levees and is better able to withstand the next big hurricane?

I could ask why God creates hurricanes and car crashes in the first place, but better minds than mine have yet to fully parse that mystery, so perhaps I’ll leave it here.

Don’t forget the story of the Fotsteps in the Sand,
“I asked Him, ‘Lord, why did you leave me to walkk the hardest places alone?’ and He answered, ‘What’s the matter, I don’t look busy? Being God isn’t enough work, I gotta follow you everywhere??'”
